Although commonly referred to as HOAs, Texas law uses the terms “property owners’ association” or “unit owners’ association” (referring to a condominium unit owners’ association). Different laws apply depending on the type of HOA.
Homeowners’ Association (HOA): An umbrella term for a property owners’ association or unit owners’ association.
Property Owners’ Association (POA): A type of HOA governed by Chapter 209 of the Texas Property Code.
Condominium Unit Owners’ Association (COA): A type of HOA governed by Chapter 82 of the Texas Property Code.
